WHAT IS HAIR  TRANSPLANTATION?

A hair transplant is a surgical procedure in which hair is moved from the back and/or sides of the scalp, where it is permanent (donor area), to areas that are thinning or bald on the front, top, or crown of the scalp (recipient area). Once transplanted, the hair will continue to grow for a person’s lifetime.

WHAT IS  FOLLICULAR UNIT EXTRACTION (FUE)?

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE)  is a method of extracting, or “harvesting,” follicular units one-by-one directly from the scalp. In FUE, an instrument is used to make small, circular incisions in the skin around follicular units, separating them from the surrounding tissue. The follicular unit is then extracted (pulled) directly from the scalp, leaving a small open hole that heals with a small white mark.

WHAT IS  is FOLLICULAR UNIT TRANSPLANTATION (FUT)?

Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is a hair restoration procedure in which naturally-occurring groups of one to four hairs, called follicular units, are transplanted from the donor area to the recipient area. In FUT, after the patient’s scalp is numbed, the doctor removes a thin strip of tissue from the back and/or sides of the scalp. The donor strip is then separated into hundreds to thousands of individual follicular unit. As the follicular unit grafts are being prepared, the doctor makes tiny slits in the scalp (recipient sites), into which the grafts are placed.

WHAT IS DONOR  ZONE?

The Donor Zone is the area at the back and side of your head where the hair grafts are taken from. You’ll notice that as men lose their hair, the back and sides are generally still intact even after the front and crown have receded. The hair that grows in the donor zone is less susceptible to pattern baldness and maintains this resilience even after being transplanted to a different are

HOW LONG DOES A HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE TAKE?

A typical session of between 1,500 to 3,000 grafts normally involves a full day of surgery on an outpatient basis. Most patients will arrive in the morning and will have their procedure completed by late afternoon.

HOW MANY GRAFTS/HAIRS WILL I NEED?

The amount of grafts you will need ultimately depends on your degree of hair loss, now and in the future, and on how full you desire your hair to be.

WILL MY HAIR TRANSPLANT RESULT LOOK COMPLETELY NATURAL ?

Hair transplantation, when done right, can be so natural that even your hair stylist will not know that you’ve had it done. But the skill and techniques of hair transplant surgeons does vary widely, as do their results. It’s important to choose the right procedure and clinic to assure that you will get completely natural results.

DOES THE HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURE HURT?

The surgery is performed under local anesthesia. The surgery gives a little pain and discomfort; but it depends on the procedure  and it varies from the person to person. If some patients feel pain and soreness; so different pain killers and medication are prescribed to them. After the surgery, though the pain is not severe. If the transplanted is performed by qualified and experienced then the pain is minimized.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO HEAL?

There is some redness and crusting after the procedure. Some patients experience swelling during the first week after surgery. Hair transplants are usually undetectable after 10 days. Follicular unit grafts are permanent in the scalp after 10 days.

WHEN WILL MY NEWLY TRANSPLANTED HAIR START TO GROW?

There is no difference between the FUE and FUT techniques when the hair follicle begins to grow. Normally it takes between three to five months following surgery before the transplanted hair follicles begin to grow new hair. Results will vary from one to another and it may take up to twelve months for the hair follicle to grow.

DO HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURES GIVE SCARS?

Fibrosis is the process which heals the skin after any cut or injury. Fibrosis is basically scarring. The hair transplant scarring is quiet depend on the handling of the surgeon; the more experienced the hair transplant surgeon is the more there are least chances of scarring. While with the modernization and technology; hair transplant techniques also get revoked. If the modern hair transplant technique FUE is used to transplant hair, then it is 100% guaranteed that there will be no visible scars.

IS THERE ANY AGE LIMIT FOR HAIR TRANSPLANT?

There are no exact age limits for hair transplants; however, age is a very important determinant of estimating the progress of male pattern hair loss. Therefore, age, must change the surgical plan and the younger the age, the more conservative the plan must be. Generally, it would be wrong to transplant a male patient below the age of 20, who has many years of hair loss ahead and the estimation of the progress is very difficult.

IS THERE ANY RISK INVOLVED IN HAIR TRANSPLANT SURGERY?

After the surgery, infection can be occurring; which is very rare. If the infection does occur; it happened because the patients failed to follow the post-operative instruction that a surgeon has asked him to do so. Even if the infection occurs; it is treatable by giving some antibiotics.
